Director General, Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) Recruitment 2026

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, invites applications from eligible candidates for filling up the post of Director General, Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL).

Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), an autonomous institute under MeitY, Government of India, located at SAS Nagar near Chandigarh, works on design and development of large-scale integrated (VLSI) devices and development of systems for telecom and space sectors. SCL has facilities for manufacturing micro-electronic devices and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) in the 0.8 micron range. Upgrading the CMOS Fabrication Foundry and related facilities and utilities from 0.18 micron to state-of-the-art levels are key ongoing projects at SCL.

The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer of SCL and has administrative and financial powers to implement the decisions of the Management Council and Management Society and to formulate strategies and plans for the smooth management of the Society.

Eligibility – Direct Recruitment

Educational Qualification (Essential)

• Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology in Electronics / Applied Electronics / Micro Electronics / Semiconductor Physics / Applied Physics / Materials Science / Metallurgy / Chemical Science / Engineering Physics / VLSI Technology OR M.Sc in the above areas
• OR Post-graduate degree in Technology/Engineering in the above-mentioned areas
• OR Ph.D in any of the above-mentioned areas

Desirable Qualification

MBA or post-graduate diploma in HR / Industrial Management / Marketing.

Experience (post-qualification, in microelectronics and/or high-reliability electronic devices/systems development and/or semiconductor devices design/development/manufacturing)

• 25 years for candidates holding qualification at I(a)(i) [Bachelor degree/M.Sc]
• 22 years for candidates holding qualification at I(a)(ii) [Post-graduate degree in Technology/Engineering]
• 17 years for candidates holding qualification at I(a)(iii) [Ph.D]
• Candidate must have at least 5 years experience in Senior Management capacity (Level-13 or above in Central/State Government, PSU or Autonomous body; for private candidates, equivalent to Board of Directors level of an organization with similar manpower and financial operations as SCL)

Eligibility – Deputation

Officers from Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertakings or Autonomous Bodies:

• Holding analogous posts on regular basis OR with 3 years regular service in Level-14 of the Pay Matrix (Rs.1,44,200-2,18,200) in the parent cadre or department
• AND possessing the qualifications and experience prescribed for direct recruits

Note: Period of deputation (including short-term contract) shall ordinarily not exceed five years. Maximum age limit for deputation: 58 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.

• Direct Recruitment: 50 years
• Deputation: 58 years
• Age relaxation for government employees as per DoPT instructions; 5 years relaxation for employees of autonomous bodies under MeitY for direct recruitment
