JNVST Class 6th Admission 2027-28
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the Prospectus-cum-Notification for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for admission to Class VI for the academic session 2027-28.
At present, 654 Vidyalayas are functional across 27 States and 08 Union Territories. A maximum of 80 students are admitted to Class VI in each Vidyalaya through a Selection Test.

Eligibility Criteria
Class & School
- The candidate must be studying in Class V during the academic session 2026-27 in a Government, Government-aided, or other recognized school in the same District where admission is sought.
- The candidate must have been promoted to and admitted in Class V before 31 July 2026.
- Candidates who have not been promoted to Class V before 31 July 2026 are not eligible.
Date of Birth
- Must be born between 01 May 2015 and 31 July 2017 (both dates inclusive).
- This applies strictly to all categories — SC, ST, OBC, and Divyang candidates.
Residence
- The candidate must reside in the same District where admission to JNV is sought.
- A bona fide residence certificate for the parent is required at the time of document verification after provisional selection.
Note on Excluded Districts
No JNVs are sanctioned in 6 specific districts with 100% urban population: Central Delhi, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Mumbai Sub-Urban.
Application Fee
Nil (Free) — No application fee is charged for JNVST Class 6 registration.
Exam Pattern

- All questions are objective-type (MCQ).
- Test timing: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
- Divyang (differently-abled) students get an additional 30 minutes.
- A single test booklet with all three sections is provided.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
- Mental Ability & EVS: 14 marks
- Arithmetic: 7 marks
- Language: 7 marks
Reservation Rules
- Rural Quota: At least 75% of district seats reserved for rural area candidates (must have studied Classes III, IV, V in a notified rural school).
- Urban Quota: Remaining seats on pure merit.
- SC: Minimum 15% | ST: Minimum 7.5% (up to combined 50%)
- OBC: 27% reservation per Central List
- Gender: Minimum one-third (1/3) seats filled by girl candidates
- Transgender: Grouped within boys' category for reservation

- Certificate from Head Master of the school where candidate is studying in Class V
- Date of Birth Certificate
- For rural quota: Certificate that child studied in a notified rural area institution
- NIOS candidates: 'B' certificate + residence in same district
How to Apply
- Register free of cost through the NVS admission portal linked at navodaya.gov.in
- Application is processed through Common Service Centres (CSC) of Ministry of IT — 2.6 lakh centres nationwide.
- Keep documents ready in JPG format (size 10-100 KB)
- Fill in all details correctly — no changes allowed after submission.
Exam Centre: Allotted as per Admit Card. No request for change of centre entertained.
Languages of Examination (State-wise)
JNVST is conducted in multiple languages based on the state. Major languages include: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Odia, Assamese, Manipuri, Bodo, Garo, Khasi, Mizo, Nepali, and others.
